'Small but perfectly formed' We reckon that, pound for pound, Slovenia is possibly the best country on the planet! A country of just 2 million inhabitants it is blessed with a natural beauty and variety that is almost unbelievable for such a tiny country.


Situated between Italy, Austria, Coatia and Hungary and part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire for centuries, the country has an incredible history. More recently part of the former Yugoslavia, Slovenia managed a smooth and painless transition into the post-communist era and Slovenia gained full EU membership in 2004. To a great degree, this can be put down to the high levels of education, national pride and basic decency of her people. Slovenians look towards the West but retain an unmistakable Eastern chic and a keen sense of who they are.
 
Recently found to be the most honest country in the world (via a rather unscientific worldwide survey involving leaving mobile phones in public places!) we found that the people made the place; the friendly English speaking Slovenians will bend over backwards to make sure you have a positive experience of their country!
